Miscellaneous Tips

  1. Know how turrets choose their targets. Whirlwinds and beamers will attack the target that is farthest away but still in range. Plasma/tanglefoot attack towards the first unit to enter their outer range. All other turrets attack the target that is closest. Position your units in such a way that turrets will attack unit types that are not especially vulnerable to that turret. For example if you are using infantry and predators, keeping the predators at the back will mean they draw whirlwind fire away from your infantry.

  2. Watch out for mines, especially when using tacticals, predators, dreadnoughts or glaives. You may want to destroy them (e.g. using Deathstorm) or beacon around them. Many players will hide mines behind buildings or relics. If you move the view left/right you can sometimes see mines that are otherwise hidden from view.

  3. If a base is fairly spread out, one strategy is to split the base in two. Use titan/orbital/deathstorm to remove long-range turrets in the middle of the base, dividing the base into a front half and a back half. Then you can attack the front half without worrying about the turrets in the back half. Once you've cleared out the front half, move on to the back half. This allows you to gather energy from the front half to use on the back half. Alternatively, if you have a teleporting hero you can just teleport past the front half.

Example: After destroying the beamer near the middle of the base, the turrets at the back cannot attack you while destroying the turrets in the front, and vice-versa. A teleporting hero can easily bypass the frontward turrets, which form the majority of the defenses.

  4. Some bases have very few anti-air turrets (or none at all). Turrets that can shoot up include bolters, hunters and whirlwinds. Use your starting energy to take out the anti-air turrets (if any), then deploy raptors to take out the rest (or just go straight for the HQ). If it's a player base, beware of heroes who can shoot air units as well.

Fun Fact: this base only has one anti-air turret and can easily be defeated with raptors once it is removed.
